Free amigurumi crochet pattern: Hound dog pup


Hound Pup
Worsted Weight Yarn Colors:
White-one skein or less
Tan or brown-one skein or less
Black-small amounts

Other Supplies:
F/5 (3.75 MM) crochet hook
Yarn or tapestry needle
Scissors
Stitchmarkers
Polyester Fiberfill

Feet
Use white or tan. Make 4.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Inc 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc 12 (12 sts)
Rnd 4: Dec 3, Sc 6 (9 sts)
Rnd 5: Dec 2, Sc 5 (7 sts)
Finish off, leaving the top of the leg open.  Stuff and set aside.
Tail
Use tan.
Rnd 1: Sc 4 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 4 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnds 2-4: Sc 4
Finish off.
Spot
Use tan.

Finish off ,leaving the front of the body open.  The body is shaped roughly like a bean with a smooth, rounded top and an indented bottom.  The open end is where the head will be attached; sew the tail to the top of the opposite end.  The spot can be sewn to the dog’s back. Stuff the body and set aside. 
Ears
Use tan yarn. Make 2.

Rnd 3: (Inc, Sc 1) rep 6 times (18 sts)

Head

Sew on safety eyes or use black yarn to make French knot eyes.  Use black yarn to stitch a nose.  Sew the ears to either side of the head. Stuff the head.

Finish off and weave in ends


I would highly recommend pinning the feet and head in place before you attach them.  I positioned my front feet too far back and my dog keeps falling forward on its nose! The pairs of feet should be positioned on either side of the “indent” that is the dog’s belly.  Sew them on and then sew the back of the head to the open space at the front of the body.  I sewed the top of the body opening to the highest row of white stitches at the back of the head and came out about right.  Use the photos for reference if needed, and feel free to comment if you need any help.

Back Feet
Use green. Make 2.

Row 4: Sc 6

Front Feet

Finish off.  Sew the two front feet to the base of the body pointing forward (the open portion is the top of the body).  Sew the two legs to the back of the body; I sewed the legs together near the ankles with a few stitches so their tops would angle outward like a “V”. 
Inner Mouth
Use red.
Rnd 1: Sc 5 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Inc 5 (10 sts)
Rnd 3:  (Inc, Sc 1) rep 5 (15 sts)
Rnd 4: (Inc, Sc 2) rep 5 times (20 sts)
Finish off.  Stuff the body and sew the inner mouth over the opening at the top of the body using beige yarn.
Eyes
Use white. Make 2.
Rnd 1: Sc 5 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Inc 5 (10 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc 10 (10 sts)
Finish off.  Use black yarn to sew pupils on the front of each eye.
Crown
Start with red yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Inc 6 (12 sts)
Switch to yellow yarn.
Rnd 3: Sc 12 (12 sts)
Rnd 4: Sc 12 in the back (or inner) loops only (12 sts)
Rnd 5: Sc 12 (12 sts)
Finish off. In the loops that remain from Rnd 4, Sc in the first loop; Sc, Ch2 in the second loop.  Repeat 6 times around until you’ve stitched in all twelve loops.  Sl st into the first loop Sc to close the ring and then finish off the crown.
Head                       
Use green yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 5 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Inc 5 (10 sts)
Rnd 3:  (Inc, Sc 1) rep 5 (15 sts)
Rnd 4: (Inc, Sc 2) rep 5 times (20 sts)
Rnd 5: (Inc, Sc 3) rep 5 times (25 sts)
Rnd 6: Sc 25 (25 sts)        
Rnd 7: In the front (or outer) loops only (Inc, Sc 1) rep 7 times.  In both loops, Sc 11.
Finish off. Sew the head to the body, lining up the back of the body with the “Sc 11” portion of the head.  The front loop only stitches form the frog’s upper lip.  Sew the eyes and the crown to the top of the head.
