If you ask most people what their least favorite part of making an amigurumi is, they’ll tell you that they get bored sewing on all the little pieces after they’ve crocheted them. Because of this, it’s nice when you can design a character that can be crocheted in as few pieces as possible. Today, I’m going to post a pattern for an Amigurumi Yeti where the head, body, and legs are all done as one piece, without having to sew them together at the end. There are multiple methods for accomplishing this, but this is the one that I found to be the easiest for me.
Amigurumi Yeti
Finished size:
Approx. 5” wide by 6” tall
Materials:
Crochet hook, size F/3.75mm
Cotton yarn, 4 ply
2 oz. white
1 oz. Peaches & Crème Mint or similar color
< 1 oz. black and grey
Scissors
Yarn or tapestry needle
Stuffing
Special Stitches:
Back Loop Only (BLO) Instead of inserting your hook under both of the top loops to work your stitch, insert your hook under only the back loop, or the loop furthest away from you when you hold the front or outside of the work facing you. This leaves you with a row of unworked loops which can be used to add texture or worked back into later.
Head/Body
Start at the top of the head with white yarn

Skip twelve stitches and Sc into the thirteenth st to form a round for the first leg. |
Rnd 25: Ignoring the skipped sts, Sc 12 in the 12 worked sts of the previous rnd. (12 sts)
Continie working in the new leg round. |
Rnd 26: [Inc, Sc 3] rep 3 (15 sts)

Finish off. Weave in ends. Now resume using white yarn to finish the second leg.
Rnd 30: Return to the 12 skipped sts that were left in Rnd 25. First, we need to anchor the yarn back in the first unworked stitch. Insert your hook in the stitch, yarn over, and pull through. Yarn over and pull through. Insert your hook back into the same stitch, yarn over, and pull through. Now yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. This is the first Sc of the round. Now work a Sc into each of the remaining 11 skipped sts to finish the first Rnd of the second leg. (12 sts)
Start the second leg by working into the first skipped stitch. |
Rnd 31: Sc 12 (12 sts)
Rnd 32: [Inc, Sc 3] rep 3 (15 sts)
Rnd 33: [Inc, Sc 4] rep 3 (18 sts)
Switch to Mint yarn.
Rnd 34: BLO Dec 9 (9 sts)
Stuff the leg.
Rnd 35: [Dec, Sc] rep 3 (6 sts)
Finish off. Weave in ends. A small gap forming between the legs is normal. If it’s too large, use white yarn and a yarn needle to stitch it closed.
Horns
Use grey yarn. Make 2.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in the second ch from the hook. (6 sts)
Rnds 2-3: Sc 6 (6 sts)
Finish off, leaving end open.
Arms

Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in the second ch from the hook.
Rnd 2: [Inc, Sc] rep 3 times around (9 sts)
Rnd 3: [Inc, Sc 2] rep 3 (12 sts)
Switch to white yarn.
Rnds 4-6: Sc 12 (12 sts)
Rnd 7: [Dec, Sc] rep 4 (8 sts)
Rnds 8-9: Sc 8 (8 sts)
Stuff. Finish off, leaving end open.
Face
Start with Mint yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in the second ch from the hook. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Inc 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [Sc in the first 3 sts, Inc in the next 3] rep 2 (18 sts)
Rnd 4: [Sc 5, Inc 4] rep 2 (26 sts)
Switch to white yarn.
Rnd 5: BLO: Sc 26 (26 sts)
Finish off, weave in ends. Cut a medium long piece of Mint yarn and thread it onto a yarn needle. Slide the needle to the halfway point of the yarn and then knot the two ends together with an overhand knot to give you a double-strand of yarn. Decide where you want the nose, then go up at one end of the nose and down at the opposite end MULTIPLE times, until the nose is as big as you want it. Tie the yarn off on the back.
Next use black yarn to make two French knot eyes above the nose and a small mouth beneath it. (I also used a little white yarn to make a single tooth at the edge of the mouth).
Assembly:
As always, position all the extra pieces to test before sewing them on. Sew the face to the front of the head and the horns to either side. The arms should be stuffed and sewn to either side of the body just below the neck. Your Yeti’s finished!
