This little guy has been sitting in the back of a storage tote for far too long so I decided to get him out to play for spring.  He’ll work up quickly for an Easter basket stuffer.

Use Yellow yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Inc 6 times around (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [Inc in one st, Sc] rep 6 times around (18 sts)
Rnds 4-5: Sc 18 (18 sts)
Rnd 6: [Inc, Sc 2] rep 6 times (24 sts)

Wings

Rnd 1: Sc 8 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 8 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Work 2 Hdc sts in the first 4 sts.  Leave the final 4 sts unworked. (8 sts)
Finish off with a sl st and weave in ends.
Beak Top
Use Bright Orange yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 8 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 8 in 2nd ch from hook
Finish off with a sl st and weave in ends.
Beak Bottom
Use Bright Orange yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 4 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 4 in 2nd ch from hook
Finish off with a sl st and weave in ends.
Feet
Use Bright Orange yarn. Make 2.
Rnd 1: Sc 5 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook
Rnd 2: Work 2 Hdc sts in ea of the first 3 sts (6 sts)
Finish off with a sl st and weave in ends.


Finishing-
Sew both feet to the bottom of the duckling and both wings to either side of his body.  Thread a yarn or tapestry needle with a length of black thread and knot the end.  Insert the needle under the head where the stitches are a little looser and bring it back out where you want the right eye, drawing the knot inside the head.  Insert the needle again slightly to the right or left, making a tiny stitch, and bring it out at the position for the left eye.  Stitch back and forth a few times, drawing the stitches tight to narrow the face.  When you’re satisfied with the shape, use the same black yarn to make French knot eyes in each indentation.  Then sew the beak pieces to the front of the head to finish.
