Fairy Garden-Tree and Stump


Mad Crochet Lab is having a fairy garden crochet-a-long at http://madcrochetlab.com/mad-cal-fairy-theme/. I worked up these patterns for week one.


Fairy Garden Tree and Stump
Worsted Weight Yarn Colors:
Green-one skein or less
Brown-one skein or less
Beige-small amounts

Other Supplies:
F/5 (3.75 MM) crochet hook
Yarn or tapestry needle
Scissors
Stitchmarkers
Polyester Fiberfill

Tree Stump
Use brown yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Row 2: Inc 6 (12 sts)
Row 3: Inc 12 (24 sts)
Row 4: (Sc 5,then all in the same stitch and in the front loop only: Sc 1, Ch 5, Sc 4 (starting in the 2nd ch from the hook) back down the ch to form one of the roots, Sc 1 back in the original stitch to anchor the root to the original Rnd 3 st. I would highly recommend using a stitch marker to mark the unused back loop of the front loop only stitches, as we will be using those in the next round). Repeat this entire process 4 times.
Row 5: Sc 24, using the marked back loops for every sixth sc (24 sts)
Row 6: (Dec, Sc 2) rep 6 times (18 sts)
Row 7: Sc 18 (18 sts)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing on the trunk top.
Trunk Top
Use beige yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 5 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 5 in 2nd ch from hook
Row 2: Inc 5 (10 sts)
Row 3: (Inc, Sc 2) rep 5 times  (15 sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Stuff the trunk and set the top just inside the top of the trunk.  Sew around the top row of the trunk and the outer row of the top to attach the two.
Tree
Use brown yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Row 2: Inc 6 (12 sts)
Row 3: Inc 12 (24 sts)
Row 4: (Sc 5,then all in the same stitch and in the front loop only: Sc 1, Ch 5, Sc 4 (starting in the 2nd ch from the hook) back down the ch to form one of the roots, Sc 1 back in the original stitch to anchor the root to the original Rnd 3 st. Finish off and weave in ends.
Tree Top
Use green yarn.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring OR Ch 2, Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Row 2: Inc 6 (12 sts)
Row 3: Inc 12 (24 sts)
Row 4: (Inc, Sc 1) rep 12 times (36 sts)
Row 5: ((Inc, Sc 2) rep 3 times, Sc 9) rep 2 times (42 sts)
Row 6: (Dec, Sc 5) rep 6 times (36 sts)
Rows 7-9: Sc 36 (36 sts)
Row 10: (Dec, Sc 4) rep 6 times (30 sts)
Row 11: (Dec, Sc 3) rep 6 times (24 sts)
Row 12: (Dec, Sc 2) rep 6 times  (18 sts)
Row 13: (Dec, Sc) rep 6 times (12 sts)
Stuff.
Row 14: Dec 6 (6 sts)
Finish off and weave in ends.  Sew the Tree Top to the Tree with green yarn, making sure you secure the branches around the Tree Top.
